United States role in the Cold War

The United States played an important role in the Cold War being one of the superpowers. They also had a responcibility to protect the United States form communism and from the war. Although we tried our best to protect ourselves from the war, some of the senators and even the president went a little off the deep end. One senator, McCarthy, made up his own rules about communism. McCarthyism was when McCarthy would go around accusing people of being communist, which made most people very angry and confused. Once they were believed to be communist they had to try and prove the senator wrong, but this was very hard to do. Even hollywood actors were accused of being communism because of old movies made about the Soviet Union, back when they were our ally. Truman would try and stop the senator, because Truman knew he was only doing this for publicity.

Opinion on the Cold War

I believe that what the United States did was a really wise choice. Going to war with China could have started a nuclear war, and it's good that we didn't go to war with them. Sure they were communism, but what are we to decide how other nations run thier government? I mean really, if everyone in the world were nationalists and didn't believe in communism then the world would have even more wars. Not only because everyone would think thier government was better than the othere but also because not everyone can believe in the same thing. It just doesn't work like that. So who are we to change how a nations government is? We may not like it, but thats just something we'll have to get over. Now, the races with the Soviet Union were pretty childish too. Why would it matter who can get into space first or who can make a hydrogen bomb first? Why couldn't we have put our differences aside and team up and reach the goal together? All the war was, was a lot of threating to bomb communist countries. I feel that the Cold War was just like two little sisters fighting because one got a better doll than the other.

Cold War Tensions

The number one tension of the Cold War was the threat of comminusm in other nations and America. The nations that were taken over by communism tried to take over other nations and turn them communism.

The second tension of the Cold War is that America was constaintly fighting with the U.S.S.R over communism. It soon turned into a race.

The third Cold War tension was the Arms race. It was a race to see who, America or the U.S.S.R, could make a hydrogen bomb first. America beat the U.S.S.R in this, we made the first hydrogen bomb on November, 1, 1952.

The fourth tension of the Cold War was the Space race. This was a race to see who, America or the U.S.S.R, could make it into space first. America ended up lossing to the U.S.S.R in this. They released Sputnik into space on the 4 of October in 1957.

Lastly, the final tension of the Cold War was China verses America. We were so close to going to war with China it was insane. We almost went to war with them over communism. Same with Japan. We released two atomic bombs on Japan. One on Hiroshima and the other on Nagasaki.

Knowledge Of The Cold War

The United States and Russia, otherwise known as the U.S.S.R, were good friends durring World War 2. When The cold war came around, however, their friendship was broken. These two nations were now known as the superpowers. They fought eachother over communism and containment. The United States had to protects smaller nations from being taken over by Russia and turned communist. So we tried to contain Russia and tried to keep communism in Russia only. The cold war took place after World War 2 when Russia and the United States were great Allies. Most have forgotten, though, what we had to do to help these smaller nations and to protect the united States from communism.
